Greetings from the end of the world

On campus a couple of weeks ago, I heard one kid shout to another from across the walkway, “GREETINGS FROM THE END OF THE WORLD.” At the time it felt true enough, but even more so now as the university has closed for the rest of the semester, as local covid-19 cases rise locally, & as Austin begins a “shelter in place” order that began this morning at midnight.

I’ve been thinking about the calls historians have made to self-document our Covid-19 experiences & while writing feels like a lot right now, I have noticed the way my pictures are changing. I feel sharing my experiences through photos is something I can commit to while I still look for the words I need to talk about this time.
